Graymont plans to build a state-of-the-art production facility adjacent to its high-grade limestone deposit in Rexton, Michigan, that will enhance its ability to reliably meet demand for high-quality lime and limestone to its customer base in the Great Lakes region, while providing a boost to the local economy.
The facility will produce a variety of lime and limestone products designed to help address society’s needs, facilitating applications that range from purifying our air and water to supporting the manufacturing of steel, other metals and paper.
As well as responding to customer demand, Graymont’s latest investment in the Upper Peninsula will generate additional direct and indirect economic benefits for the region.
Graymont has applied to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy for the requisite air-quality permit and other regulatory approvals, and hopes to move forward with the project by the end of 2020, contingent on receiving required regulatory approvals.
The modern facility will include highly-efficient limestone handling and calcination operations, utilizing the best available environmental-control technologies.
“This latest investment reflects our continued confidence in the economic future of Michigan and neighboring states and will further enhance our ability to support the success of lime customers in the region,” said Graymont President and CEO Stéphane Godin.
