Quicklime

Quicklime or Calcium Oxide (CaO), is an alkaline and crystalline solid utilized in several environmental and industrial applications.

Kampar Plant - Malaysia

Graymont can supply various types of quicklime in crushed and pebble form from numerous sites across our network. Quicklime grades are available that are suitable for further crushing and slaking or direct slaking. Quicklime products are utilized across many industries including soil stabilization, water treatment, pulp and paper manufacture, steel making, glass making and mining. The most common mining applications include sulfide mineral flotation, pH modification for leachates and sludge stabilization. Quicklime is also utilized in several environmental applications including sludge treatment, biosolids treatment, flue gas treatment and treating acid sulphate soils.

Quicklime is created by heating limestone as shown in the following chemical equation:

CaCO3 + HEAT = CaO + CO2

Graymont offers a number of quicklime products tailored to the specific needs of customers for use across various applications. These products include the following:

Dolomitic Quicklime

Dolomitic quicklime (MgO,CaO) commonly known as dolime is a widely used chemical compound in applications such as a flux and slag conditioner in steelmaking, in environmental applications, and wastewater treatment.

Pulverized Quicklime

Pulverized quicklime is a specially milled quicklime product for various metallurgical, industrial, chemical and agricultural applications. Pulverized quicklime is also available with an additive for enhanced handling and flowability.

Granulated Quicklime

Granulated quicklime is a specially sized quicklime that meets exacting particle size specifications. Granulated quicklime provides Graymont customers with a sized and low dust product.

Ground Quicklime

Ground lime is sized to meet particular specifications where a high-quality quicklime product is required.

High Calcium Quicklime

The production of high calcium quicklime begins with the selective mining of chemically suitable calcium carbonate. Throughout the manufacturing process, we carefully monitor the process to produce a high calcium quicklime that is highly reactive and has suitable particle surface area. The result is a high calcium lime that will provide reliable performance for acid neutralization, flue-gas desulfurization, sludge stabilization or other related industrial alkali applications.

BOF lime

BOF lime is specifically processed to meet the demands of integrated steel manufacturing. Our BOF-grade lime yields low loss-on-ignition, low sulfur and low fines content for optimum process results.

PCC lime

PCC lime provides superior chemical performance compared to standard lime products. Graymont carefully monitors the manufacturing process to produce high-calcium CaO that is highly reactive and has exceptionally high brightness.

Did you know?

There are three distinct types of limestone, defined by their magnesium carbonate (MgCO3) concentrations. These types are Dolomitic (35 to 46% MgCO3), Magnesian (5 to 35% MgCO3) and High calcium (less than 5% MgCO3).
