Sludge Management

Environmental-remediation initiatives often employ a multitude of lime applications.

Sludge

Lime can be used in the effective treatment of industrial sludge, sewage biosolids, petroleum wastes and acidic drainage from active or abandoned mine sites. Lime is often used to lockup heavy metals converting them to more stable forms that are less likely to leach, solidify and dewater sludges and neutralise some hazardous wastes. Furthermore, lime is being trialled as an aid to improve soil mechanical properties for oil and diesel contaminated soils.

Did you know?

Limestone, the most important and abundant sedimentary rock in the world, is formed by the compaction of the remains of coral animals and plants on the bottoms of oceans.
