Richmond, British Columbia -- Graymont is moving ahead with plans to add a state-of-the-art, low-emissions third kiln to its mining and production complex in Pleasant Gap PA, to meet growing lime product market demands in Pennsylvania and surrounding region.
Graymont has applied to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection for the requisite air quality permit and is proceeding with detailed engineering and design work for the new gas-fired kiln. The new kiln will feature the most environmentally friendly technology anywhere in the lime industry.
The company anticipates PADEP’s decision on the air quality plan approval and other regulatory approvals before year-end. If approved, construction will be initiated before the end of 2012.
The addition of this high-tech, low-emissions third kiln will increase production capacity by some 25 per cent at Graymont’s Pleasant Gap plant, which already ranks as the most modern lime plant in the region. Top-quality jobs will be added to Graymont’s existing local work force and the project will generate additional direct and indirect economic benefits for the State College and Bellefonte area.
“This latest investment reflects our continued confidence in the economic future of Pennsylvania and neighboring states, and will further enhance our ability to support the success of lime customers in the region” said Graymont President and CEO Stéphane Godin. “Our track record for unsurpassed supply reliability and going the extra mile to meet customers’ needs has made Graymont the partner of choice for any application that utilizes lime to create added value.”
Mr. Godin noted that Graymont’s choice of leading-edge, low-emissions natural gas fuel for the new kiln reflects the Company’s commitment to achieving world-class performance in every facet of its PA operations, especially in the crucial sustainability and environmental areas.
Graymont is a leading producer of lime in North America with facilities across the United States and Canada, and has a significant investment in Grupo Calidra, the largest lime producer in Mexico.
