Precipitated Calcium Carbonate (PCC)

PCC stands for precipitated calcium carbonate. It is a manufactured form of calcium carbonate produced under exacting conditions in order to obtain crystals of the proper shape, size and physical characteristics required for a host of complex applications. Graymont manufactures this product at its Tacoma, Washington site, strategically located for marine delivery.

Although precision is crucial, the manufacturing process itself is simple. First, Graymont takes the finest lime available, which is calcium oxide, custom made for this process at one of the Company's facilities. The calcium oxide is mixed with water and pumped to the reaction vessel. CO2 rich gas is then introduced into the mix to produce PCC. The reaction is as follows:

CaO + H2O → Ca(OH)2
and
Ca(OH)2 + CO2 → CaCO3 + H2O

Of course this is all done using the latest state of the art equipment and control technology.

Graymont has the ability to manufacture a wide range of products that can be tailored for each customer's use. Contact Graymont to see how your calcium carbonate needs can be met.

Did you know?

After processing, products derived from limestone can eventually revert to their original chemical form by reacting with carbon dioxide in the atmosphere or from industrial processes.
